Austin Limestone

The Austin Limestone is quarried in large blocks sawn into different thickness of slabs and then chopped. One thing that should be noted about our Austin quarry is the deposit of stone are much harder than most other deposits of stone in this region. Our stone is more dense and less porous than the other Austin stones.

There are basically four different types or colors that come out of our Austin Quarry. The first and most popular is the pure white, and it is pure white. It will give a very clean look, especially when installed with white mortar. Second is the cream. This layer is mostly white but will have a slight creamy-yellow cast to it with some pieces being a bit darker. The next color is Crystal. It is a pure white with fossils and crystallization in it. This stone is harder than the regular creme or white layers. The crystal will tend to have more roughback in it than the creme or white. Roughback is the name given to the natural face of the stone that has been exposed to water and minerals over the years. It will range to a yellow, gold or sometimes a copper color. Most of the time the other side of the roughback will be the same color as the ledge from which it came. Different percents of roughback can be mixed into any of the colors which will offer a great number of possible color blends. The fourth color which comes from our Austin quarry is the snake rock. Snake rock is a rough chop stone with a very high fossil content. It has a yellow-gold color with an occasional copper roughback. It is the hardest of our Austin Limestones. No other limestone offers the hardness and pristine white color of our Austin white and crystal. For this reason Stone Supply supplies this stone to customers all across the nation.
